Many people are bothered by having split earlobes, perhaps from heavy earrings having slowly divided the soft tissue of the earlobe or maybe from an infant reaching out and grabbing a shiny, dangling jewel. Whatever the cause the result of a split earlobe may mean a disfiguring earlobe and even result in an inability to wear the desired piece of jewelry. What doesn’t seem widely known is that the repair of a split earlobe is a very easy and quick procedure to go through when performed by an experienced surgeon.
The repair is done in the office with a little injection of local anesthesia followed by a repair of the earlobe. The procedure can be done in as little as 30 minutes and the patient can return to normal activities – out to lunch, back to the office, walk the dog – immediately afterwards. A small earring can be placed at the same time so jewelry can be worn immediately. A few small almost invisible stitches are placed that are removed about a week later. Scarring is minimal and satisfaction is immense.
