Gluteal Augmentation | Buttock Implants | Buttock Augmentation

Gluteal augmentation is the surgical procedure for placing very soft but solid silicone implants beneath the gluteal (buttock) muscles or beneath the covering of the gluteal muscles. Gluteal augmentation uses anatomically shaped implants to help achieve symmetry, size, and firmness to the buttock area as well as providing a lift to the whole area. I have been performing this type of body augmentation since 1989 and my practice has seen the procedure become very popular for both men and women. The implants that are placed are similar in shape to the actual buttock area. The buttock region is soft yet firm and the implants are very similar in nature. The implants that I have designed are very soft but are, in fact, a solid silicone material. If needed, I am able to contour or shape the implants as needed to fit the body type or goals of each individual patient.

PROCEDURE: After outlining the areas to be augmented with the person in a standing position, the person is put to sleep with (general anesthesia) in the operating room. A two inch incision is made and well hidden between the buttocks in the midline over the tail bone area. Through this incision the buttock muscle (gluteus maximus) is lifted up and a pocket is made just large enough for the implant. The implant is then inserted into its pocket and the opposite side is performed. Both sides are carefully examined in order to assure that the results look natural and symmetric. Dissolvable stitches are placed in the skin incision. A bandage is placed that provides compression to the buttocks which in turn helps reduce discomfort and swelling. The person leaves the  surgical center within an hour or so after the two hour procedure. The patient is uncomfortable for the first few days. The taped dressing is usually removed two to three days following surgery. At this time the patient can take showers and begin to move around more normally. The results can be seen immediately but the buttocks looks more natural and becomes more soft as the tissue overlying the implants begin to stretch during the several months after surgery. Full activities including gym work, bicycling, and running can usually be resumed about four weeks following surgery. Some discomfort is usually present for approximately six weeks following surgery to the extent that vigorous activities may have to be curtailed.

Overall, the results of Gluteal Augmentation are a very natural and soft enlargement, lifting, and firming of the buttock areas. For my patients who are from out-of-town I recommend that they plan on staying in the area for a week or so following the surgery. The patient would be up and around within three to four days but the extra time allows the person to be much more comfortable and with less risk of a complication before returning home.

The Gluteal augmentation procedure has become one of the most popular and asked about procedures that I perform.  For further, more detailed information about the procedure, contact my office to arrange a one one office consultation.
